What makes a community college a great place to work? Since 2014, the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges (MPPWCC) annual survey has provided valuable insights into workplace and employee satisfaction, productivity, and institutional best practices. A collaboration between NISOD and Diverse Issues in Higher Education, this national project highlights exemplary institutions that foster conditions for belonging and learning excellence. In this webinar, we will explore key findings from the latest survey, share trends in workplace culture, and discuss how community colleges can create environments where faculty, staff, and students thrive. Attendees will gain practical strategies to improve workplace climate and support. Tips about participating in MPPWCC 2026 will be provided.

Certificate and CEUs for Webinars
Learners will have the option to earn a certificate of attendance or a certificate with Continuing Education Units (CEU) upon completion of the webinar. To earn a certificate with CEUs, the learner must successfully pass the learning assessment with a score of 80% or higher. All learners must complete the post-event evaluation to earn credentials.

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn is a leading authority in the fields of education, psychology, and leadership, internationally-known for his ground-breaking research and scholarship on sense of belonging. He has authored over 14 books and more than 200 academic publications in highly-regarded peer-reviewed journals and volumes, plus dozens of widely-circulated op-Eds, letters, and blogs. He is a contributing writer for Entrepreneur, AllBusiness, ThriveGlobal, and leads the “Belonging Matters” blog for Psychology Today. Driven by a genuine passion for helping others, Dr. Strayhorn has dedicated his career to working with individuals from diverse, vulnerable, and system-impacted backgrounds. Further reflecting his abiding commitments to community engagement and translational scholarship, Strayhorn is President/CEO of Do Good Work Consulting and serves on the board of several non-profits including Rainbow Labs, Psychologists of Color Inc., Career Analysis Organization of America, and the MCT Educational Foundation. Strayhorn currently serves as Professor of Education and Psychology at Virginia Union University, where he also works as Director of Research in the Center for the Study of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Principal Investigator of the Belonging Matters Lab. He teaches courses, designs curricula, and/or supervises doctoral committees at several universities across the globe. A leading subject matter expert with skills in Lean Six Sigma (black belt) and strategic planning, Strayhorn earned a bachelors degree from the University of Virginia (UVA), masters in education from UVA, masters in psychology from Indiana Tech, and doctorate (PhD) from Virginia Tech. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
J’Quen Johnson is a Research Associate at Do Good Work Consulting. He is also a doctoral candidate at University of the Cumberlands. His research interests include issues of accessibility and inclusion, as well as fostering sense of belonging for Black men living with disabilities in higher education. To date, he has published 6 peer-reviewed publications, 6 academic blogs, and 2 national conference presentations. Previously he served as Assistant Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Online Recruitment at Tusculum University. He is a new professional and graduate student board member for the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice.
